Teacher: All teachers participating in the study program |
Course status: Required |
ECTS points: 3 |
Prerequisites: – |
Course objectives: The main objective is to prepare students for work on the master thesis (it is the first phase in the development of the master thesis). With the guidance of the mentor/supervisor, the student is prepared to apply the acquired fundamental, scientific, technical and professional skills, as well as the acquired mastery of the methods specific to the selected subfield of advanced data analytics and the related computer technology and tools, to solve a specific problem. As part of these preparations, students study a wider context of the problem, its structure and complexity. |
Learning outcomes: In the qualification paper the student defines the topic, objective, research methods, and literature that will be used in working on the master thesis. The student expands his/her previously acquired knowledge with knowledge and skills that allow him/her to solve complex problems in the selected area of focus in the master thesis. In addition, students are trained to conduct research. |
Course structure and content The content of the qualification paper depends on the selected problem and is aligned with the thesis objectives. The work covers the area, topics and purpose of the research, the initial hypotheses, research methods, the contribution of the qualification paper, and conclusions.Based on the literature survey, students are introduced to the existing approaches and best practices in solving similar problems. Based on the conducted comparative analysis of available solutions, the student makes a proposal of his own approach to solving the thesis problem. The objective of the students’ activities in this part of the research is to acquire the necessary experience in solving complex problems and tasks, and to identify opportunities to apply the previously acquired knowledge in practice. |
